Gone Hiking

I think our biggest was 27# one year and we also had trouble cramming it into the roast pan (without the lid). As I recall, some of it wound up being underdone and some also overdone. Every year since, we've bought two 12.0 to 12.5-lb turkeys to make instead, which get done faster and more uniformly. My hub brought home a 30 lb. turkey one time. He had to go find a roasting pan big enough to roast the beast.
My wife also insists that we buy fresh, not frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving, so every year we make our pilgrimage to the Mennonite store and pay $2.69/lb instead of half that or less for frozen turkeys from the local places. She was raised a farm girl, so who am I to argue?
