Thanksgiving USA (2025)

Clementines (which are halos I think), would be great in the relish. Why don't you want their zest in the bread?
I have a microplane and arthritis. I see my fingers getting zested on the tiny halos. Plus I need the juice. I guess I could zap the skin in the mini FP.

Juice after zesting, I would have thought.

This year I didn’t see good oranges at the supermarket yesterday, so I’m going to pick my Algerian Fremont tangerine or clementine from my own garden. Since I grow them organically i know i can trust the peels. However, I need a few to wash my bird. What do you use to wash the bird, I do have plenty of Meyer lemons(alsofrom my garden), I wonder if I can use them instead.

Mrs. GH and I did our Thanksgiving shopping this weekend, so we're all set, though her selection of sweet potatoes is seriously disconcerting.

I see what you mean. Who’d expect to find a sweet potato that looks like a dodo bird, huh?

You could serve that with one of my garlic knots from a few Thanksgivings ago:

Not for flavor, just for cleanliness.
Washing birds before cooking is no longer recommended. It increases the chances of food poisoning due to cross contamination. The potential bacteria the water would have contact with will be killed in the oven anyway.
Do a quick google, the advice in the UK, Europe and America is the same.
