The Bean Bag

Yes. The name changes depending on the region. Both my grandmothers were from the South (USA) so we grew up calling them "butter beans". I rarely buy canned beans unless they are kidney beans for my chili (if I don't have time to long cook the beans) but here is a can showing how they are labeled in my area.

I usually use canned beans, unless I plan ahead and make a big pot of ham and bean soup, or something similar.

In Texas, it used to be forbidden to use beans in chili, but it is acceptable now, but no kidney beans, only pintos.

I keep pinto beans, black beans and some kind of white beans in my pantry all the time. I can now get canned beans with no added salt. Otherwise, canned beans can be pretty high in sodium.

I prefer to add my own salt to anything I cook. That gives me control of the sodium in my food.
