The General Chat Thread (2025)

Definitely one of those weeks.
Sorry to laugh, but it’s a laughing with you sort of thing, not at you, especially where the hot drinks are concerned.

We use an Aeropress for coffee, and me being the house barista, it falls to me.

I have so many of those “moments” with that contraption, it’s amazing I haven’t thrown it across the room in frustration. On any given day, I might:

1. Put the grounds in the cup instead of the Aeropress
2. Forget the filter
3. Forget the base, pouring the grounds straight through the Aeropress tube and into the cup
4. Forget the grounds
5. Forget to grind the coffee entirely

I remember a friend of mine, immaculately dressed in a cream suit, who "pressed"a little too quickly.
Cream with your coffee?

Done a couple of those :)

[Mod comment: a bit edited out of here and moved to a more relevant topic.(TR)

Then I made a cake this evening, and tried undoing the spring-form cake time with bare fingers shortly after removing it from the oven. Tho I touched it, I didn't burn my finger and thumb as the clip had started cooling and also as soon as my hand got close my brain was decent enough to say 'hang on, stop' to me.

Had a good “senior moment” yesterday.

The restaurant we went to, their main dish portions are big enough for three good-sized servings, so we had a lot left over to bring home.

Got home, got out our glass containers (the to-go boxes let too much odor out - don’t want that in my fridge), removed the little paper-towel cushions I use to nest the containers, transferred the food to those, put everything where it belongs, watched some TV, did some work (grrrrr!), went to bed and had lovely dreams of sweet & sour this and crispy-noodle that.

Got up this morning, had coffee, went to get some half-n-half out of the fridge and noticed my little squares of paper towel were in there. Hmmmm…that’s odd, whatever.

Finished coffee, went to unload the dishwasher, opened up the cupboard where I store those containers…yep, there were the leftovers from last night, all tucked away nice and cozy-like in their little containers. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Needless to say, I’m very first, top of the charts, hit parade number 1 on MrsT’s shitlist right now…
Think of it like this - at least you didn’t put butter in the dishwasher!

Have you done that?
My husband managed it a couple months ago - the story is in the Easter 2025 thread, but I had put out some butter in a bowl on the countertop to come to room temperature for baking.

My husband came along, loaded the dishwasher, somehow managed to not notice the full block of butter, put the bowl (plus butter) in the dishwasher, and then ran the dishwasher.

He is NEVER living that one down!

So this morning I overslept and missed my train, and then when I was walking to the train station, I thought to myself “hmmm, that bird call…sounds like a red-winged blackbird” and then immediately discovered that yes, it was a red-winged blackbird when it attacked me! I had evidently walked a bit too close to its nest, and it responded by dive-bombing my head.

Great start to Monday morning!

Used to have a blue jay nested in the bushes by the corner of the house and she'd dive me *everytime* I cut the grass. I started throwing out bread and we came to an understanding...

Hope you’re unscathed?
