Well, I went out in public and got one of the things I planned on doing done, which was a small travel center convenience store shop (quick and easy 10 minute shop). My plan was to stop at the grocery store on the way there first to buy a bottle of Mirin cooking wine to make homemade teriyaki sauce with for my Asian style tacos. As I was coming down the ramp off the highway to turn on the road (right hand turn) to the road where the grocery store is located, there was a semi in the left lane that turns right and a cement truck in the curb lane that turns right. I saw it in my head before they made the turn...the semi didn't swing wide enough and the concrete truck was trying to turn at the same time (I was right behind him), and the concrete truck scraped up against the side of the semi. They both stopped, got out, and started arguing and taking photos. Why on earth that concrete truck didn't just wait for the semi to make the turn first I have no idea (I don't have a CDL but I do have common sense) I don't know. Anyway, with traffic at nearly 4 pm on the eve of our Independence Day holiday, there was traffic backing up on the ramp onto the highway behind me. I managed to get someone in the left turn lane to let me in so I could turn left and get back on the highway going north, go to the next exit, and turn back around so I could go back south and get to the convenience store to do my shop. That was a waste of about 30 minutes of my time and no mirin wine for moi.
When I pulled into the travel center parking lot, I took the photos of the fueling area and was going to pull up in one of the parking spots in front of the building, but a large, tricked out flashy pickup truck with a boat attached to the back was parked parallel to the building, taking up about 5 parking spaces, 2 of which were handicapped spots. I parked in a side space not close to the building, went in, visited the restroom (per the shop guidelines), selected a pack of gum to purchase, and made my way to the register. An old man with a cane was limping in and he walked up to the register. I overheard him say to the cashier that he had to park out by the gas pumps and walk because the pickup truck and boat were taking up the spaces along the front. Just then, the lanky jerk was walking up to the register with his case of beer and he turned to the old handicapped man and said, "Hey, you fat lame F*#@, I just needed to grab some beer for a minute and I am moving now." The old man and everyone in line were taken aback. The jerko boat and truck owner bought his beer and left.
I decided to just skip trying to get the mirin wine for now. I was only gone from home for about an hour but I had entirely more than enough of seeing rude and/or stupid people in public for the day.
