The General Chat Thread (2025)

not just Alexi - absolutely true. all the voice command "assistants" do the same.
if you want to scare yourself right good, get some "port monitoring" software and check the log(s) of all the places your Windows computer talks to behind your back....

"in the old days" . . . . "somebody" would have to listen to (the presumed recordings) of everything in your house to ensure you're not a terrorist.

invent: voice recognition. reduces the workload to some few key words . . . still requires several million people to monitor . . .
invent: AI - automatically listens/evaluates everything - can instantly alert law enforcement if you so much a breath something illegal - compiles what junk mail and email spam you should get . . . no human effort required . . .

so yeah - all the sci-fi futuristic stuff . . . that can happen.
Way back in the day there was, can still get it, a word processing package called emacs. You could have it, automatically, append 'trigger' words to a document you were sending to entangle the 'observers'.

I can promise you it is not just Microsoft. Apple and Linux are just as bad. And don't even start on websites using trackers by inserting a single pixel image file downloaded from Facebook or other sites to track who has been to what sites.

It's currently snowing heavily.

You haven't heard as much of me as usual, and that's because I have this incredibly foreign sensation going on. As many of you know, I have been on Saxenda (a kind of medication like Ozempic etc, I have a thread about it on here) and it's causing me to lose interest in eating.
This has never happened in my life!
It's very strange to suddenly feel much more like cooking is a chore, and even though I still like eating my palate is changing too. I lost interest in a lot of foods I used to love and really need to find out who this 'new me' is in the kitchen. It's an interesting journey for sure.

Does that happen to more people on the same medication?

Having returned to the desert from the tropics, it hasn't taken either of our skin to go back to that lizard state!
The first few days of being back in humidity (80% +) in Hawaii were difficult, but those trade winds make it more comfortable.
Now, here in Cowboyville Arizona, the humidity is at an average of 15%, I had to go hunt down the room humidifier and crank that baby up... got it up to 45% last night... we've each been having bloody noses with the dryness... oh wait! We were at Sea Level for a month and then back to above mile high - that can play havoc on your body too!
We'll settle back in soon though, not our first rodeo ...
