The General Chat Thread (2025)

Having returned to the desert from the tropics, it hasn't taken either of our skin to go back to that lizard state!
The first few days of being back in humidity (80% +) in Hawaii were difficult, but those trade winds make it more comfortable.
Now, here in Cowboyville Arizona, the humidity is at an average of 15%, I had to go hunt down the room humidifier and crank that baby up... got it up to 45% last night... we've each been having bloody noses with the dryness... oh wait! We were at Sea Level for a month and then back to above mile high - that can play havoc on your body too!
We'll settle back in soon though, not our first rodeo ...
Same thing when I moved to Nevada. Went from 80% RH to 6%... Nose would bleed whenever.

Looks like we're in for a chilly week.

Doubt we'll see double figures though where we are. Highest today was 7°C.

Coming saturday we're at Parkheuvel (2 star restaurant) again. Really looking forward to seeing what the summer menu is like, as before we've only gone in autumn so far.

And from July 31st to august 4th we're at the ren faire Castlefest | Where fantasy becomes your reality again. This time with a hotel booked, so I will be able to partake fully. Best time of the year is coming up!

I went to a celebration of life yesterday, for my best friend’s father.

While it was definitely sad and many tears were shed (he died a little too soon, from cancer), it was also very nice - the formal part of the celebration included multiple musical performances, and an informal sing afterwards. He was a big part of the local folk community here, and so after the celebration, everyone sort of stood in a circle, taking turns singing shanties and labour songs, with the whole group joining in on the choruses.

We all finally ended up down at the pub, where pints were raised and the singing was still going strong by the time I left around 11 pm. It was certainly a fitting send-off, and the kind of evening I think he would have really enjoyed.

My condolences. I am glad to hear the farewell was beautiful 🙏 may he rest in peace

Hot here today.

I had a really weird errand running experience: everything went smoothly, which is pretty strange!

I left at 2:50pm to get my rear tail light fixed and my mechanic didn't charge me. I went to Aldi to get peanut butter and bread for groundhog sandwiches and some berrries, and was in and out in 10 minutes. I went to pick up my prescription and there was no one in line ahead of me. I found my ground lamb and went to the self-checkout, no one in ine, and I had $2.30 in rewards discounts I used. I went to the Dollar Tree and found the macaroni and the boxes of tissues I needed (often they are out). And I was home by 4:15pm! Normally that could have easily been over 2 hours. So pretty happy about all that!
