• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

How’d the Monday exam go?
Other than a total blank mind for the first few minutes for the easiest of questions which he knew i knew, it went really well. It was an oral exam which adds a new dimension to the exam. Usually you only get oral exams in languages.

I was rather thrown by the final question though... have I got any questions? Err, no. I thought i was meant to be answering them, not asking them!

Apparently, I might now know something about blockchain and distributed ledgers!

I can't stand MS!!! Neither of us use their services, I have the Norton Search engine on my laptop.
Okay, so what service should I be using to protect our:
2 iPads
1 Laptop
2 iPhones
All modern devices need protection. The concept of its based on Linux and it doesn't get viruses is long gone. All my products right down to my ipod air have protection. Most solutions nowadays cover everything not just viruses, but exploits, sms scams, email scams and so on. They also provide VPN and so on.

My preferred solution is by Bitdefender. The solution is get gives us 10 devices licences for the entire family, you can get more or less if needed. I have been with them now for about 10 yrs. The trick is to disable to the automatic subscription 1 month before it is due to expire and renew. You'll get offered half price to stay with them. Been doing that for target a long time now.

MS is the one with holes all over it. It's flawed via the nature of its design. Data from 2023 indicates that 70% of the worlds servers are Linux based..
From my hacking course, I can tell you that is not the case anymore at all.

Mod. Edit: This post and several more moved here from 'what did you cook or eat today' (MG)

So for lunch I'm currently sitting round the back of the house having a slice of air pie with a side of rusty padlock 😬
I know that feeling. I once locked myself (and the dog) out of our house in the middle of a brutal Minnesota winter. The temp was around -20f/-29c.

The dog couldn’t understand why her usually loving and brilliant owner was punishing her by making us sit outside in the the cold and kept walking to the door, looking at me, and wagging her tail.

Fasting for blood work. My appointment isn’t for two more hours 🙁
I always do my best to get those appointments scheduled for first thing, even though it can sometimes be inconvenient, because my regular doctor is 40 minutes away.

Then afterwards, I stop off somewhere for a huge breakfast as a reward for getting up so early.

It is the reason I only like door with deadlocks 😆

Of course there's always that hidden key outside thing... Just sayin' 😁
Lol the first thing I said was is the spare key out here? 😂
But when we pack up for the summer and don’t return for 2-3 months we remove it. So the keys, the outdoor spare, the padlock key and the car keys were all inside 😬 😂

Meant to ask, how long where you stuck out there for and how did you get back in?

It was a few hours, until MrsT got home. Our house was a split-level, so the basement/lower-level windows set just above ground level, just behind some shrubbery.

The dog and I hunkered down there, between the windows and the shrubs, and got some heat coming off the windows from inside the house.
