The General Chat Thread (2026)

Got a phone call from DH’s older brother.
Sister in Hawaii needs help, pronto.
I called her to find out what was going on.
She was beside herself in tears.
Her husband was in the hospital, something about his back.
He’s had chronic pain for main years but it has never landed him in the hospital.
Their two daughters are both away on business and won’t be able go home for at least a week.
They will be releasing him as we spoke and she was so scared.
Guess who’s on their way to Honolulu?
I put everything together in a matter of two hours, had us packed and on a shuttle to the airport.
So we’ll be nursing dear brother in law along and assisting dear sister who is blind and basically another patient.
Safe travels. I'm guessing this is a different sister...

I should have done that with my bike - went out yesterday to take a ride and the thing was dead as a door nail wouldn't even hold a charge. Normally I pull the battery out of it before I put her to bed at the end of the season ...

Went to take car out. 2 weeks parked up. Flat battery. It's charging now. P.i.t.a.
Need it for tonight car swap

I'm incredibly lucky with my landcruiser. We can not touch it for 8 weeks or more and she'll start better and more easily than if you turned her off 10 minutes ago.

Somehow I've managed to take another fall.

Currently sitting with an ice pack on both knees, and resting my left forearm on a 3rd. I'm out of ice packs else I think my ankle might like one as well.

I got to from my desk, picked up my plate and mug, plus my glass (my oh complains of i leave them on the desk). Turned to the right 180 degrees, and went to walk away. Somehow I ended up falling. Knowing I had lost my balance completely, I threw (yep, you read it correctly) the china away from where I was going to land because I knew they'd break. Ouch. Both knees, my ribs, my left ankle and in particular my left forearm where the ulna was shortened where I've removed some skin. Amazingly my mug didn't break, but the plate totally shattered and 250ml of water also went everywhere.

So sorry to hear SatNavSaysStraightOn
I hope it's nothing too serious
With my track record, somewhere down the line, I'm probably find I've broken at least 2 bones....

Last time I took a tumble up in the chook area, I tripped and fell towards a big rock. So I pushed myself away from it. It took me a while to get back to my feet. Whilst I was lying on the ground, one of the two chooks I was after tried to get between me and the electric fence, so I caught her and held her to my chest working out how on earth I was going to stand up.... then I proceeded to carry the chook back to the house, return to the chook enclosure, catch the second chook , back to the house (walking about 800m in the process) before going in to sit down and work out life. I did visit emergency 3 days later. That ended up with my right foot in a boot. But they never xrayed my knees or my left foot.

Fast forward 6 weeks and I had to go for more xrays, then several MRI scans. I had 2 nasty stress fractures at the top of both tibia where 1 side of the bit that sticks up would have sheared off if it went any further... I also had a stress fracture in my 3rd metatarsal on my left foot, and had several grade 3 tears of various soft tissue in my right ankle.

By the time things actually healed, the metatarsal fracture had broken and healed etc, 6 months had passed. It started in the January. It was august before i was up and around again and by October I needed a total hip replacement for a different reason, but the time off my feet had not done it any good...

So knowing my luck, I've probably done those darn tibia in again. My left ankle is still not happy, my leg wrist has already dislocated twice so far so it looks like that will need a support for a while during the day, add well as the nights. I have hyper mobility syndrome so my left wrist frequently dislocates.

And as always, I am probably walking on broken legs again. My hair is covered in something and stuck together (guessing herbal blackcurrant tea and coconut water). That will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm too tired and sore to shower and I don't think it will do me any good right now having a hot shower when I've just had cold compresses on me.

I'll see how I am in the morning. I know my current foot injury is hurting again (cuboid syndrome), so if my physio wants xrays on Monday, I'll get then done, but hopefully I'll just be covered in bruises and nothing more. 😅
