The General Chat Thread (2026)

I'm sore as anything this morning, but so far the cold compresses have suppressed much of the bruising. I can't taken ibuprofen or similar with them being part of NSAIDs which I can't take because of my asthma.

My left foot is hurting, it's not impressed with left and my right knee is seriously unimpressed with me as well.

I can however increase my hydrocortisone which I'm meant to do after an injury. That will help my body heal. I'll see how I go over there next few days and take it from there.

So, I sat in on a vendor's presentation at the office last week. The presenter asked the audience when a couple of local historic events occurred, which were germane to his topic, and I called out the years, "1972 and 1979".

The presenter replied, "That's right. I thought the older gentleman in the back might know the answer to those!"

I was puzzled and thought, "older gentleman? I'm only 52." Then I looked around and realized, SOB, I was the oldest one in the room! He and I have vastly different thoughts, apparently, on what constitutes "older gentleman". I sure don't feel old, and I took particular offense to being called a "gentleman"!

My guess is Yogi. 😜

Not a huge Horrids fan but absolutely love Fortnum's. Must cost a small fortune to ship from the UK! Lovely goodies tho!
I can’t remember the shipping exactly…$35US? $75? It had a 5 in there somewhere.

Harrod’s we had to order direct from the UK, but F&M have an agreement with Williams-Sonoma, so we ordered it through their website and the shipping for that one was reasonable (but no doubt added into the price of the product - it was a smaller hamper than Harrod’s, but half again as much, if I remember correctly).

Just looked on W&S - shocking price markup on Fortnum items! $60 for a tin of biscuits/cookies😲

I last visited Harrod's in 2024.
And when I say "last"- it will be the last.
The Food Hall, which used to be a foodie's heaven, has been reduced by half. The fish displays have gone. The cheese counter has been reduced to a miserable 10 mts. The rest of the store has been taken over by high-end brand franchises. When I lived in London (many moons ago!) we'd go to Harrod's for something really exclusive and maybe unique.
The place was just tacky, exceedingly expensive (well it always was) and not really very exclusive any more
