Has anyone heard anything about this? Supposedly, the countries that produce a majority of the sheep's/goats' milk for feta cheese production/distribution are taking a massive hit from pox in their animals. They're anticipating a big shortage for a while, and feta cheese is going to be more scarce and most likely going to skyrocket in price. This especially sucks because I like to eat feta like cereal, in a bowl with a spoon and without shame....

I have not, but I don’t eat much feta, so I would likely skip that story if I saw it.

There’s a block of feta in my cheese drawer right now that’s been in there for months.

Some feta on sale in the UK is made in the UK from UK milk, so won't be affected. I suspect the same is true in USA. Check your packets!

I should add it is labelled 'feta style' if made in the UK.
Yes, I have seen "Feta Style" where I am, and I have tried it a few times, but it's not the same. The texture is not bad, it's pretty close, but the flavor is not even close. When I have feta, I want it to smell/taste like a 600-pound man's socks that haven't been washed since 1983. The taste is very mild. That "pungent" classic feta taste is very tame in the "feta style" type of feta. It could be used as a replacement (at least temporarily), but your dish will be lacking that strong feta flavor that you crave. (or at least I crave).

I grabbed this screen shot from Walmart:

Athenos sounds like a Greek company doesn't it? Its not. All made in the US from cow's milk and other additives.

Yea, this stuff is fine, and I use it sometimes, but I like the taste of feta that comes from ewes. (How it's "supposed" to be.)

I took a virtual feta trip through Walmart (not completely comprehensive). Far as I can see there are no authentic Greek feta cheeses sold. They are all made in the US and as far as I can see not made from goats milk or sheeps milk.

So the one you buy is imported from Greece?

I have gotten several. The cow's milk ones are always the "mildest." Also, I have had Muenster from cow and goat. One of them I love and one I don't care for, and I can never remember which one it is 😭
