Things you miss due to no longer available or formula/recipe change

No, I looked for one while lamenting the search function. Wouldn't need to reheat in broth since the gelatin melts into broth. I concentrate that so a qt. of gelatin makes 2 qt. broth. 👍 I'll have to post a recipe but thats more of a hot weather food here since it's eaten cold on toast or crackers.
If it was a frozen block on direct heat you’d have to reheat it very slowly and watch over it for an eon while it melted.
Putting the frozen block in liquid would be much faster cos you can go hotter and it would be hit from all sides.
Quicker and require less input.

I plan ahead. It would already be thawed when it hit the pot. 😃

Soup Starter I used to make the beef barley soup every Halloween. I could make it ahead of time. That way, the girls would have something warm to eat after trick or treating. Haven't made my version in a long time. DD asked me to make it for dinner tonight.

I guess it depends when you fancy soup, for me soup is rarely planned, soup suddenly becomes a need.
Got a chill in your bones or feeling under the weather then SOUP comes to the rescue.
But standing over the hob or a repeatedly pinging microwave wating for a big solid lump of frozen soup to defrost just doesn’t fit with sit back and relax feel of soup. I’ve tried it and it didn’t work well.
Probably just me.

Yeah, you're different Sazza... 😉

I miss certain products that are still available in the south but not sold here. I could get them but not willing to pay extra to do that.
I would love to get my hands on some Leidenheimer bread to see what all the fuss is about.

When I was a kid, we often ate sliced cow tongue lunch meat that was prepared in a block of gelatin, which I always enjoyed. That doesn't exist anymore, except on the rare occasion where you might find sliced tongue in a local butcher shop as a souce, which is not the same thing at all.
I made this one yesterday but it takes an overnight in the fridge to cure. Some beef stew meat, S & P, gochugaru, and lots of collagen. I could make one out of cow's tongue but that's just too large a piece of meat or meat for me to buy and it's out of my price range.

I bet pippi would help you eat the tongue :)

I like tongue (which sounds wrong!). Its difficult to get it here any more (that also sounds wrong).

I'll try again; ox tongue can be found in some supermarkets as a thinly sliced deli meat:

Here is something I made using it:

Ox tongue with grapefruit and poppy seeds on a bed of baby spinach. A rather retro starter:

Does anyone from the USA remember the Sanford and Son episode where Fred was in the kitchen paying bills. He was right in front of the stove. He turned around, lifted this big fork out of the pot that had a tongue on it. He used the tongue to lick the envelopes.
