Trouble starting yeast for bread

rascal can you please clarify what the yeast is that you are using? Maybe take a photo of the pack.
A link to a recipe would also be nice... :whistling: :)

I did find a "basic" bread recipe video from Jamie Oliver. While it was very entertaining, I wouldn't want that to be my first bread-making experience, mainly because he sacrifices some detail and instruction for wow camera work and hokey sayings. I think he's become Rachael Ray. :eek:
 
Try looking in this thread. My post #4 is for a simple flat bread to get you started with how the yeast is supposed to act and a feel for the dough. You don't have to use a stand mixer. I often make it by hand. You can substitute whatever fresh or dried herbs you want or even leave it plain. It's simple enough the grandkids can help. When she was younger, my oldest DGD loved to help me shape it because she could beat on it and mash and smash it to her heart's content and it didn't hurt the finished product a bit.
