Welsh cakes or Picer ar y maen to give them their proper welsh name are a traditional tea time cake here in Wales. I had never heard of them before moving from England but they are very popular here.
They can be eaten hot or cold and are made from flour, sultanas, raisins and/or currants. They may also include spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, they are usually served with a dusting of caster sugar.
They are traditionally cooked on a cast iron griddle which is placed on the fire or cooker.
