Welsh cakes or Picer ar y maen to give them their proper welsh name are a traditional tea time cake here in Wales. I had never heard of them before moving from England but they are very popular here.

They can be eaten hot or cold and are made from flour, sultanas, raisins and/or currants. They may also include spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, they are usually served with a dusting of caster sugar.

They are traditionally cooked on a cast iron griddle which is placed on the fire or cooker.
 
regional cakes and pastries are great ,welsh cakes ,drop scones and afternoon tea scones from devon all served with their own delicacies like clotted cream or preserves ,makes the British afternoon tea what it is
