What’s going on in your garden (2026)?

Today I went to Home Depot and got 4 bricks and while there I saw a bag of peat moss not too expensive, 2-3 years ago, it costs $5 more. So I got a bag home.
This afternoon, I divided Joan J raspberries in to 4 large chunks, then I threw out the rest. Tomorrow I will plant them like I receive them as bare root. But honestly I can tell the stem either, not sure what to do. 2 years ago, they sent me five canes, now I don't see them. Not sure if I’m doing the right thing or not.

Potatoes. I have several dark purple varieties, that are solid purple all the way through. More interesting than white potatoes or red skins ones!

These are purple skinned and purple flesh.

I did once or twice get some. I found them very starchy and a bit heavy. Not so much to my taste but they do look dramatic. Might be good in a potato salad with some other vegetables.

It varies from variety to variety. There are literally hundreds of different varieties of potatoes all different. These can't be purchased in shops even in the UK.
I like them because they bring in more nutrients into the dishes.

I can get various of sorts of purple potatoes on- line in the UK. But I am not sure whether they are similar to yours. I think some are a variant if sweet potatoes which are a different species from white potatoes.
 
I harvested all of my tropical fruit except for citrus because I’m starting to graft tomorrow. Last year I decided to grow more tropical fruit so I can have something in the winter besides citrus, and this year I have eaten 6-7 guavas, and maybe this atemoya. I don’t really know if I harvest it too soon or not, but that’s how I’m going to learn for next year.

Today I moved all of my Himbo Top raspberries, I also moved my mulberry tree Silk Hope in the pot, then I realized it could be dead. Husband let me borrow his saw and I shaved one branch easily, scratched off the trunk, it maybe dead.
So plan B is to root the Dwarf mulberry for replacement and graft Shangri La to my White Ivory.
Then I trimmed one branch of my Longan tree to let in my light in the middle for fruit production.
This is it for today, grafting will be an all consuming task tomorrow.

these are not sweet potatoes or related to them, they are potatoes. Bog standard ones. One of them is a purple pinkfir (salad) potato and the other is a normal one - shetland black if I recall correctly, but they have been growing here for 5 years or so now, so I have forgotten, but that also means they are better adapated to my climate, at 900m altitude and massive swings in temp, than those from the lower climates where they originated from.

OK - having checked - Shetland black is not purple all the way through, so I will have to browse through my emails to see what "potato" purchases I made.... Or they have crossed with something and I have some deviant potatoes growing in the depths of the veg plot.... :D
 
Today I grafted all of my jujube scions, I’m not labeling them yet until I know they take.
The only variety that I’m keen on regrafting is Chico, i do have this variety but the scion is not growing, it’s producing fruit but only on one ranch.
So I grafted Chico and X815 to my Dong Zao 3, grafted Black Sea to my Ga-866, Dae Sol Jo to my largest Li, Gold Silk to my second Li in the front yard.
 
Some pictures of my roses and a bush of blueberries I put near the roses, I might put some more in front, mix in with the landscaping.

Charles de Gaulle, has more lavender color in real life, I love lavender roses, Scentuous is next, a Tantau rose, very hard to find them here, the next one could be an Italian rose or a David Austin rose.

I did a lot of work today.
First I grafted 2 Asian pear scions, variety is Raja, I’ve heard this variety is prolific. I want some pears in my garden because my husband likes to eat them.
I then chopped off with a hand saw, a thick 2 inches stem of DK, BFF, and a branch of my Red Atomic Nectarine. Make room so the sun can reach other fruit trees.
I also planted the rest of the raspberry plants.
I fertilized all of my raspberries and blueberries.
I grafted my favorite Adriatic fig scions to a few places.
More to do tomorrow.
But the garden is getting in a very good shape.
