What’s going on in your garden (2026)?

Predicted to rain a lot Sunday so I brought 2 of my 3 mulch piles down to the garden. They were ground up when I started them last fall and I've been turning them after it rains. They get really heavy now when they're wet.

Okay, the wood and the cardboard is removed for the rain. It's already drizzling a bit so this is good! After it rains and dries right for tilling I'll put my mulching leaves on and grind it all up together.

The two lads have finished excavating. They removed all the tropical ivy (botanical name is ficus trepador) and some of the roots, a couple of inches thick, had already eaten holes in the wall. They've also dug the channel we're going to use for drainage. Water filterage was close to destroying the whole thing, so good job we caught it in time. We're going to have to build 5 concrete columns, but that's not a big issue. A local resident was going to construct something in his house, but he got ill and decided not to bother, so most of the materials (cement, sand, gravel, etc) I'm getting at a discount. Additionally, the two lads only cost me $50 a day.
Next week, It's reconstruction time. That'll be fun...
