What Brought You To CookingBites?

[bump]

I know that I've said this before, but I feel like it bears repeating:
I had to teach myself how to cook, really!
No one and I mean, NO ONE in my family cooked!
I wanted to cook from a very young age, so young, that I couldn't reach the stovetop, I needed a chair, and that's where my Mother drew the line, "... you can cook once you don't need a stool in the kitchen."
My Mother's food was, to me, barley edible and THAT'S why I wanted to learn how to cook.
So I went to the library often. Back in the day, there was no internet, or cooking programs on TV.
Then I found sites like CookingBites.
I've learned so much here, over and above what knowledge I had already gathered.
So many techniques were absolutely foreign to me, but now I feel like I could tackle anything, just so long as I could find the ingredients or alternates here in Cowboyville Arizona.

What brought you here to CookingBites?

I was part of a forum about mystery shopping. There were a few people with nasty attitudes there so I was struggling with that already, though I had some "friends" there, and when the pandemic happened that industry pretty much shut down for awhile. I was home a lot and cooking up a storm but missed communicating with people, so I googled "cooking forums" and found CB. I was entranced by the photos for sure (I told my DH I had found a food porn site, lol)! I loved the international diversity here too. I'm a member of 2 other cooking forums but I don't visit there often. I find the website layout and functionality there a little clunky and though the people are pretty nice overall, the lack of variety made it a little boring at times. CB has such a great layout and I really appreciate how intelligent and interesting CB folks are--it somehow makes the world feel a little smaller (in a very good way).

JAS_OH1 I so agree with you on the intellect here at CB and the different countries folk are from.
I do also appreciate the site itself, being of such high quality, thank you SatNavSaysStraightOn !!!
I also like that there's no back-biting going on here at CB. Everyone is so respectful of others... not everyone is an expert home cook nor professional chef, just folks who want to share in everything food (and then some).
I would hope that some of the newer members would chime in ...

Yes!

It's happened, but the quick moderation team shuts it down quickly.

I don't think I'd ever explained how I ended up here.

Give the newer folks time.

Yes! Thank you so much SatNavSaysStraightOn

I think I signed up in Nov. of last year when the garden was tilled under and the gardening forum was slowing down. I have to eat every day so giggled food forum or some such term and ended up here. Like JAS_OH1 mentioned I also love the international diversity, knowledge bases, and different skill sets presented here. This is a good place! 😃

I was a member of a forum for one of my passions and it was (and still is) a wonderful, supportive, educational space. I did some google searching for a cooking forum hoping that I might find a similar vibe and after a few dead ends I found it here.
I first signed up a few years ago then dropped away when life got in the way but have been back for a very short while. I lurk religiously but very rarely post, however my brand new kitchen has finally finished being installed so I am looking forward to getting back into it

Thank you everyone. I'm glad you like the atmosphere here. I try to keep it friendly, though I know I don't always succeed. It's not easy but I do feel that there should be safe areas on the internet where everyone is welcome (except those who want us to pay their advertising or flood the site with unwelcome content).

From what I'm hearing, on the most part, myself and the moderators have achieved that here.

I joined CB on 1st Jan 2021. I had made a new year's resolution to improve my cooking game so cast about for an online forum of like-minded individuals. I think CB might have been in the top 1-3 hits on Google, so I signed up and I've had a blast ever since. I've learned so much from everyone and it's definitely helped me improve.

I love that's it's a small tight-knit community where you can experience others' personalities over a long period of time and get to form a bit of a character picture about them and their cooking, and there's sufficient variety of things cooked up to keep me interested. It's a supportive and fun group and I plan to stick around a long time.
