What did you cook or eat today (April 2025)?

The last veggie burger left in the freezer; a few potatoes (from yesterday) fried in olive oil; some garden peas and some creamed leeks from last week.
I also made a rhubarb crumble.

Tonight I'm making kievs kumara chips and fried eggs. The kumara chips are hard to get so we stocked up on those morsels.
Tomorrow is chicken and pumpkin risotto.

Our supermarkets are full of sweet potato chips n wedges choices. Odd how different things take off in some countries and not others.

I don't notice because I don't like sweet potatoes!

Sweet potatoes are imo tricky devils.
They can very easily be wet and watery flavoured and in those cases I'm not a fan either.
But I've tried most of the offerings in the UK and while the majority miss the mark completely a couple of the chips (fries) options aren't bad.
Still not good enough that I buy them though

One time I was in NZ a guy at a bar offered to sell us some kumara vodka he'd made, so we went out in the carpark (which tbh felt a bit dodgy) and he opened the boot of his car and he had a case of bottles. There were three of us and we bought one each. It was very good!

The what's in the fridge that needs using soup...

Mostly carrots (1½kg), lentils and tahini plus tamarind, coriander, cumin, chili, black cardamom, garlic, ginger, paprika...

I've just planted a couple of sweet potatoes in the garden. Once they start reproducing, I should have enough for a month! I like sweet potatoes,(except for those ghastly things with marshmallows) although I don't cook them that often. I think you do have to be careful not to overcook them, though; they take less time than a "normal" potato.
