Ah, but I am wanting the English seedless variety, as I don't peel them and the skin on the English cucumber is tender and delicious...plus they are less watery. The one thing I don't like about the seedless though is that they don't keep as long as the ones I grew up eating and used to buy.

I am going to guess you probably have them in your markets and they are just called something different. They aren't really completely seedless, they just have very few seeds and are firmer and less watery than the typical cucumber grown in North America.

As you can see, they are longer, skinnier, and have a more textured skin than some others do. I think we have a cucumber thread somewhere and I am pretty sure it's mentioned there. I'll try to find it.

Edit: I couldn't find the cucumber thread, although I found an old thread about cucumber recipes. Anyway, I know it was discussed before at length but it may have been so long ago that it's just lost. Windigo could you post a photo of the types of cucumbers you find in your markets when you get a chance? No hurry, of course.

They are virtually the only type sold in supermarkets in the UK. Or at least, that is how they look.

There's no such thing as 'varieties of cucumber' in the Netherlands, I can assure you. There's no market here for things that are different from one standard. Most Dutch people aren't quite as much a foodie as I am, I am the exception. The myths are unfortunately mostly true.

I think the cucumbers you mention might be sold at middle eastern stores, but I have none in my area because I live in Dutch Hillbilly central :laugh: I will take some pictures on friday at the weekly market though in case I am mistaken due to lack of experience in cucumbers

Similar here.
Here it’s not an ‘English cucumber’ it’s just a cucumber because that’s what’s available.

We’ve had a conversation somewhere else on here about the crystal apple cucumbers, little round yellow ball shaped ones.
I used to love going into the greenhouse and sneaking a few of those straight off the vine 😋
