"My youngest finished this year's first semester in college and was coming home for a month", as in "has now/tonight" entered the winter break in between semesters. He goes back in January.

My youngest finished this year's first semester in college and was coming home for a month, so I wanted to have nice dinner ready for him to return. I had a window today between 11:30, where I wrapped up with work, and 6:30 where I needed to head to my company's Christmas Party. In that interim, I made braised short ribs (and chuck roast) with roasted cauliflower purée and glazed carrots, topped with gremolata for him. The braise alone was 3.5 hours 284*F/140*C, and I worked almost non-stop in that interim to prepare everything else. This cooking can be a labor of love, I'll tell ya! View attachment 138179

I guess that's a use of language problem.

"Was coming" implies it didn't happen in our family. "Has come" means it did happen.

I thoughtfully for a while there all your effort had gone to waste.

Unfortunately a day old, so I heated them up in the frying pan.
The dipping sauce was far too sweet so I made my own of vinegar, fish sauce, bit of oystersauce and (kashmiri) chili powder
