What did you cook or eat today? (December 2025)

Well didn't know where to post this, here or in Plans for the Day or weather so here goes -

I was planning on going to my local for a fish fry tonight (for the fourth week in a row) but the wind here is unbelievable and the risk of loosing power is too great to leave the house - so here I am AGAIN stuck at home and no fish fry :(

Right now (in some vain attempt to compensate) I am baking in my convection oven (made by LG for those interested and self cleaning with four electric heating pads, two of which are adjustable) a tray of Tatter Tots.

For those uninitiated - this is what a Tater Tot is:

Yep little bundles of lucious joy :woot::woot::woot:

Yes, tater tots are, I understand, little bundles of joy. We don't have them in the UK but maybe there is something similar. Some battered fish would go well with those tater tots (sorry).

I cooked something similar for breakfast this morning.
Unfortunately I took the pics with Mr SSOAP’s phone so I can’t show you but they were adorable little star shaped hash browns, special edition for Christmas ❤️

Not great pics but I’m on the Johnnie Walker Black Label Triple Cask that you can only buy in duty free so I beg for some leniency 😝 😋

Some delightful (if you like anchovies and very strong flavours) Lady’s relish.

It looks a little more like potted anchovy here because someone (ahem) couldn’t wait for the mushrooms to cool completely 🙄 😂

Edited to add the recipe - Recipe - The Lady’s Relish

Tatter Tots are a version of mashed potatoe I think - don't quote me on that but that is what they taste like. And yup - a nice 10" fillet of Beer Battered Haddock would go perfectly with them -

I don't think I want them now :(

It looks better than my original recipe. I may steal your photo.

I like tater tots in ‘Breakfast brick’
It’s basically an overnight slow cook of breakfast items that sets to a brick (frittata type thing). It’s tiny sausages, hash brown bites, cooked mushrooms (all liquid cooked off), dry fried lardons and lots of egg and cheese quite robustly flavoured with onion granules, paprika and salt.

I’d literally send them off to rugby full of brick and they still weren’t hungry on their return. Marvellous 😂
