• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

Hey, rascal, do you know that menudo has tripe in it LOLOLOLOL!?!

I'm laughing because that was the first soup served to me when I was 16 by my high school boyfriend's mom (Mexican, obviously). I didn't eat the chewy things in it and they didn't tell me what it was until I was nearly finished. The broth and veggies were good though.

I make it with the stomach lining but others use the intestines! Want the recipe with the intestines? 😱

🤣

The Korean all you can eat buffet near me has intestines on the menu. I don’t like the way it tastes.

I made Mexican rice for a dish and forgot to set a timer, and when I realized, half of the rice was perfect, and the bottom half turned into socarrat, a wonderful, delicious "mistake."
I've a Persian, I think, recipe for making a rice dish where the bottom is crisped up with olive oil. It's a tricky dish to get "just right" but it is so good!
