What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

Mom had her appointment for her bi-weekly beautification, albeit our hairdresser had to cancel, her daughter is not well.
So, we picked Mom up anyways and we went to lunch at a new-to-us place...

Burger and Fries for moi.

No pictures, but I made an aubergine parmesan (eggplant parmesan, melanzane alla parmigiana) for dinner. Baked the aubergine slices in the oven for 20 minutes, painted with olive oil and sprinkled with salt. Homemade tomato sauce, mozzarella, aubergines slices, then topped with breadcrumbs and Grana Padano cheese.

I had chicken trinchado for lunch with a roll.
This was on the menu as a starter and was just the right size for me. Luckily there was piri iri sauce on the table, giving it just that little extra

Dinner was with the neighbours from the people I am house sitting for
Vegetable soup, followed by fillet steak, French fries, red cabbage and salad.
It's been a heck of a long time since I had soup as a starter :)
There was apple crumble as desert, but I skipped that.

E-elk? :)

Ok what’s that like?
Elk! As in venison. Very tasty lean ground/minced. Great for burgers as the flavour (which is not 'gamey' at all btw) shines thru.
People regularly hunt in this part of the world and it's usual to take large game to be 'processed' and packaged into conventional cuts by local specialty butchers shops. We are given a fair bit amount of venision by friends and relatives.
