What did you cook or eat today? (January 2026)

Just out of interest
When you do these type of "events", do you just cook or do you join in on the dinner and so on?
It depends. Almost always, guests wander into the kitchen and ask what I'm cooking, have a taste, have a chat and then carry on with the party. Sometimes, I get invited to sit down to eat. Almost every time, I get to explain what they're going to eat just before service.
When I get invited to sit down and eat, that's great, but I rarely get to eat anything. Just as I'm putting a mouthful of chicken korma on the fork, someone will comment
" Oooh, but this has got some spices I've never tasted before! What's in it? "
So I explain. Next forkful
" How do you make this bread so soft?
So I explain. Next forkful
"Where did you learn to cook this? It's just like nothing I've ever tasted before! "
More explanations, cold food.
I always get my wine glass topped up, however. :D :D

I so want pot roast again, and I looked to see if I had everything ready to go, and for some reason, my InstaPot is missing. It's not in my home, and I have no idea why I don't have it anymore. It's not exactly small; that's like losing your toaster oven. It's just weird.
I used the pressure cooker.

Wild cod from Alaska cooked in onions, garlic, capers, diced tomatoes, and 1/3 bottle of Chardoney bought over Christmas, I also threw in a couple of olives because I like to eat them. I had 1/2 of potato nuked in the microwave, easy peasy, no fuss lunch.

Had store-bought corned beef sandwich (bread on the side) with sour pickle spears for brunch. Have a some l/o's. Went food shopping so not sure if I will have a "fresh/new" meal or l/o's.

This time of year, we often place hot stews and things we've cooked out back to cool instead of stuffing them immediately in the garage fridge. Late this afternoon, I discovered a large glass RubberMaid container out on the patio that was full of a frozen beef roast that Mrs. GH made some time in the past couple of weeks as best we recall that we'd both forgotten about. So, that made dinner a very easy (and surprise) choice tonight, lol. 🤣

I do the same with my patio.
