What did you cook or eat today (June 2025)?

I love that you tried it and enjoyed it 😍! Selamat makan! ( Enjoy your meal) .
Indonesian food is often very easy to make
I've got limited experience of making Indonesian food. About 15 years ago, someone called me out of the blue and asked if I knew what a "Rice table" was and if I could prepare one for her. With the help of a Penguin book called "South East Asian Food" and some help from the internet, I put together a meal of about 8-10 different dishes.
Since then I've made Indonesian meals quite a few times, although I've got no idea how authentic they are. What I will confirm, however, is what Windigo says: it's often very easy to make.
I'll also say that it's perfect for a mixed group of people. It has a multitude of chicken, pork, beef, fish, seafood, vegetarian and vegan dishes, with some utterly delightful combinations of spices, condiments and flavours. Something for everyone. It's also stunningly colourful and healthy.

the market had baby (4 ounce / 115g) lobster tails on special.
I like to cut both sides on the bottom - makes getting at the tail meat much easier.
pin the tail flipper for broiling . . .

Need to lose a few and not eat as much empty carbs. Trying to eat more nutritionally dense foods, like my non-GMO unmilled wheat berries getting here tomorrow.
I understand this, but rice isn't really empty carbs. I realize you are watching what you eat, but I saw your pantry shelf with the rice and it appears you've got quite a bit. I'm just suggesting smaller portions.

Yes, both beef tallow and duck fat are available here. I was looking at some beef tallow last week.
This was the first time I’ve seen duck fat of any kind. Never seen tallow.
MANY years ago there was a fast food place called “ Wesson’s” (or something like that). The fries were 1,000 times better than McDonald’s. They fried in tallow. McDonald’s put them out of business. 🙁

We'll be told of pretty soon, but my boys get beef bones or chicken feet with their rice.

Me on the other hand is eating lentils today. Maybe with rice, maybe not.
I haven't decided yet.
Red lentils, ginger, chili, garlic and tomatillo's. And some Sri Lankan curry powder that I still got.

Brunch was homemade tomato salad (tomatoes, olive oil, water/ice, salt, pepper, loads of fresh basil and garlic), fresh cut pineapple and bakery seeded semolina bread to dip in salad.

Too hot to do much cooking. Dinner will probably be take-out pastrami and corned beef plater (rye bread and pickles provided on side) and more green or tomato salad.

BTW - When did Ronzoni start selling Pastina again? Saw it on the shelf when I went shopping.
