What did you cook or eat today (June 2025)?

Well, I won't keep you in suspense and it's not all that otherworldly: stir-fried beef intestines. I saw someone eating it and thought it looked interesting enough to try, but tbh it was just 'OK'. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat them again as they were quite heavy and (how shall I say) 'cholesterol-y' tasting. I managed to get half of it down before I felt queasy. No offal-y taste at all and they were spicy, crispy on the outside and very flavourful, but as I said heavy and oily feeling.

I can get those but I don't stir fry them, too hard to eat for me that way. I cut them into "circles" and use them in soup or cold salads. 👍

More Korea food:

Breakfast buffet dim sum:

Not very exciting but I virtually always have some buttered bread with meat/ham/salami from hotel breakfast buffets. I think it stems from growing up in Europe and traveling to places like France or Germany.

Beef bulgogi at the buffet:

This strawberry cream-filled fried bread/donut affair. My daughter wanted one so I also gave it a try. Bit meh tbh.

Tteokbokki - rice cakes in a spicy sweet sauce from a street vendor.

My daughter ate so many strawberry things. Here are the souffles before they were topped with lashings of cream and fruit:

Not sure why they had this sign. There were no donuts nearby. Clearly unauthorised donut consumption at this stall had been an issue in the past:

Spicy grilled lamb stick street food. Went back the next night and got another one.

More kimchi and pork pancakes. Yum:

Department store supermarket sushi. Looked better than it tasted and cost more than it was worth unfortunately.

This is the Google translation of this item which was sort of a corndog with fishcake surrounding the sausage. Not sure which part was supposed to be made of goblin and which of bat or it was the description of an orc weapon.

I had this smashburger from a stall that supposedly won the world burger championships a few years back. Didn't know there was such a competition, but I didn't feel that it was world dominating in flavour. For one thing it disintegrated after the first bite and it's no wonder they gave it with cutlery.

Just returned from 6 days in Seoul in South Korea. I have soooo many food photos so will start to post them bit-by-bit.

I'll start with a bit of street food. Coconut shrimp:

These dumplings. I had the kimchi and pork ones and I think they might have been the best thing I ate on the trip. Really flavourful and balanced with each bite.

This is soy-marinated raw crab. It's really delicious, though I appreciate some people may be turned off by the fact it's raw. My wife had one piece and said that was enough for her. Bit messy to eat as you can imagine, and also, bloody expensive; this plate of two not-especially-big crabs was KRW 35,000 (about £19 or $26 USD). Might give this a go to make at home if I can find the live blue/flower crabs they use.

Hotplate sirloin. Nothing special for KRW 50,000. Wouldn't order it again but my daughter's a bit of a picky eater but likes beef.

Jjajangmyeon - Korean black bean pork noodles. I made this once before long ago and don't remember it being that successful so might have another stab at them. These were really satisfying.

Seoul is a beautiful place. We spent 7 days there in early 2000s. I flew to pusan to do some business there. I see it's now called Busan.
Wife said she had the best salad ever in our hotel. We stayed at swiss hotel.
