• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Since I didn't get my Burger the other night for take out, I MUST have one tonight!!!
I have American Cheese and then some sliced Onion and Dill Pickle Chips on mine, with a side of AF French Fries and the rest of my Maui Brewing Co® Bikini Blonde.
We're sitting out on our patio now, enjoying the stary sky.

The fried pork chop was good. I made gravy with it, like I always do when I fry chops. And the buttered egg noodles went along nicely.
But this is what I am considering the main course. Along with some warm cherry preserves.

Beautiful!

I had to laugh at first, because I read “The fried pork chop…” first, then immediately glanced at the picture and thought, “Uh-oh, he’s burned the crap the out of those!” - glad I was wrong!

I’m nearing a return, folks. I have a lot to talk about, which I will in due time. The bottom line is that things are finally good.

I also wanted to share my new favorite tradition:

Go out to eat on Halloween

It’s absolutely the best if (like me) you don’t enjoy the holiday quite as much as you once did. When our kids grew up, we lost the motivation. Yes, of course, I love chocolate. But, it’s a bit of a chore when I don’t have a vested interest in the day.

We ate at a restaurant curated by Jared Bobkin - renowned Michigan chef, and 2-time contestant on Hell’s Kitchen.

This is a flawless flat iron steak with sprouts and potatoes:

This is a pork ragout pappardelle, with the Bork braised in red wine.

Definitely preferable to mini snickers bars.
