• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

What did you cook or eat today? (November 2025)

I have to admit, a Chinese takeaway is really good value for money.
Sunday, I bought 1 ration of fried rice, 4 egg rolls and 1 ration of prawn & pork lo mein.
Me and my son had a bit of each on Sunday night. He took another portion to the gym on Monday, and I had some for dinner.
I've just tarted up the lo mein (added a few veg and a few prawns I had languishing in the fridge, and my gardener is eating like a king.
...and I've still got some fried rice!

I love Chinese food. Whenever I get takeout, I always get 2 main dinners, and regardless, every time I get Chinese, I have to also get shrimp fried rice and crab rangoon, it's a law where I live. I always get at least 4-5 meals' worth of food out of it. It's always a great value for how much you get.

Did say it’s raining/snowing here in Cowboyville AZ?
This calls for a nice big bowl of comfort. Won Ton Deluxe.

This kind of looks like how I make my cornbread. I like my cornbread moist. I find that there are too many restaurants that have cornbread that's too dry. Is it supposed to be dry? Isn't cornbread a Southern thing? Do we need Barriehie to tell us how it's done? This cake looks so good and zesty.

I do it like this.

Stir fry with shaved rib eye marinated with a little tamari, sesame oil, garlic and ginger, red/yellow/orange bell peppers, onions, and shiitakis with Ramen noodles, and a sauce of chicken broth, tamari, sesame oil, hoisin, garlic, ginger, white wine, cornstarch and white pepper. I did all the prep, Craig cooked.

Another jar of Pickled Red Onions for the next door neighbors.
Mrs. NDN had said how much she enjoyed the sliced Jalapenos I had put in the las batch of onions ...
Moi: you did? I can do more of that if you like
Mrs. NDN: yes please.
And she knows the rule now, you always return the container you get something in, or you don't get anymore of that!!
