What is this root vegetable?

@Morning Glory, I had no idea what it was when I harvested it, so I cut the leaves off not realising that they too are edible.

What I meant was that you could identify what it is from the leaves.

But I'm really surprised you don't eat turnip being vegan (apart from eggs). They are delicious, combining a slightly bitter peppery flavour with sweetness when cooked. I used some recently in this very simple vegetable stew: Recipe - Root vegetable stew with tarragon
