What made you smile recently (2025)?

If you try to use the front door here, you have to traipse through all the chook shit first. They live there in bad weather or when it's too hot.

If you use the back door, you just have to run the gauntlet of chooks thinking you're about to feed them instead.

The first house we lived in, you’d have to navigate random pieces of furniture and things to get to the front door, which opened onto a spacious front porch that looked out of the main road through the village - we used neither.

The back door, through the kitchen, opened onto a small cement pad and a scrubby, narrow back yard. That’s the door we used.

When we built our own house, it was the same thing. In 15 years living there, I’ll bet I went through the front door three times. Front porch, looking out on a massive wooded front yard…used for storage of unwanted items. We always used the back door.

We're side door people. It leads into the kitchen. This is why our dining room table is always covered in whatever we brought home the day before or what needs to go out to the recycle bins. And most of the time both at the same time.
