What music are you listening to? (2025)

I know Enya well, very relaxing music ☺️

Within Temptation has one of the highest pitched singers in the genre ( Sharon den Adel) I prefer Tarja Turunen , the previous singer of the band Nightwish. She's a mezzo soprano. My favorite song of last year is this one:

I had a lot of Enya CDs when I was a massage therapist. Great music for the spa. I liked a lot of the nature CDs, too. I learned early on NOT to play music of water falls, babbling brooks, etc.! LOLOLOL

That’s lovely, all the songs I know about death are rather harrowing (but that’s how I like it).

I’m quite enamored of the horns on this, or at least the horn parts, as maybe that’s a synthesizer, I don’t know, and there’s this little warbling part buried in there that sounds like either a synthesizer or a guitar run through a Leslie speaker that’s just wonderful.
It is horns on the original recording, a synth when done live. The song is about the singers father, very moving when he does it in front of you.

Worth noting that China Crisis were produded by Walter Becker back in the day, and his influence lingers.

May I recommend the full album "Autumn in the Neighbourhood" where this comes from.

Watch this just for the diversity of musicians, locales, and instrumentation - even if you don’t like the music per se, it’s worth sticking around to the 3:50 point just to hear Sierra Hull take her little half-break:
Classic, original blues. I could listen to that all day and all night. Reminded me of John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, and Cream, my favourite groups as a teenager. But then, once the internet got going, I found all sorts of magnificent stuff waaaayyyy before those guys!
I was the singer/keyboards in a genuinely appalling group when I was about 17, 18. All our songs started with:
"Ah well I woke up this mornin'
An I got out of my bed...."
No wonder we were appalling

I’m listening my way through all of Metallica’s studio albums before the concert (I’m midway through St. Anger right now).

Absolutely incredible that they came out with all of these in a row:

Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
…And Justice for All
The Black Album

Any ONE of these albums would be an absolutely incredible achievement for any band, but for one band to have made all of them? Blows my mind.
