What "Old School" products do you use?

I use, and love Wondra flour. It was introduced in 1963 by General Mills. It is a cooked, dried flour that dissolves in either hot or cold liquid without lumps or a flour taste. I use it to thicken sauces and gravies. Wondra is wonderful if you like smooth silky gravies and sauces.

I still have this in the house. I used to use it as an additive to stews and suchlike, but these days I just drink it as a hot drink. It's pretty old school I think - it was developed in 1870 according to Wikipedia (here I was thinking it was invented in the 1970s!).

It's the word that they used to refer to how the cooking process affects the flour, not an actual ingredient
It looks like useful stuff shame we don't seem to have an equivalent here.

Bovril. Reminds me of carol-singing around Christmas time, many moons ago.
We'd go carol-singing around the village and some places would come out with biscuits and cups of hot Bovril!

Do you reckon that's a geographical thing? Here it was hot chocolate, not good hot chocolate mind you, the all in one made thin with too much water type

Bovril (can't recall the last time I saw it) is klissin' cousin to British marmite and Aussie vegemite. Thee latter is vegetarian, I think, and the former is not.
