What will you be watching on TV tonight (2025)?

I thought he was/is Irish?
Yes (although he moved to England aged ten). I know this because Mr SSOAP said he is Irish and I said no flippin way his accent is atrocious, he must be one of those Brits who claim to be Irish/Welsh/Scottish but really grew up here (there’s a lot of them) so I looked it up and yer he’s Irishish.

So many people are finding it awful apparently they’re undecided whether they’re going to do a second series.
Shame cos Tom Hardy is genuinely cockney(ish) so for a change I’m not wincing at a mockney accent.

Brosnin said he was aiming for a Kerry accent which is very harsh in comparison to other softer Irish accents. I can’t believe no-one told him to drop it!

The same thing happened to that fella in Outlander - he’s Scottish, but he was lambasted over his character’s accent. If I remember correctly, a lot of people felt he was really leaning into it and hitting it rather hard, and ended up sounding like a cartoon character.

We watched…two Colbert’s (we’re chronically behind), SNL (episode from Saturday before last), Altered Carbon (I have absolutely no idea what is going on in this show, it’s utter nonsense), and The Studio, which is the first thing Seth Rogan’s ever done that I’ve liked - I usually find him incredibly annoying. He looks like someone who perpetually smells bad. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Generally in the UK when they go to drama school and enter the world of the luvvies their voice coaches tell them to ditch their regional accents asap and go for Received Pronunciation a posher version of an English accent. It’s amazing how many of these people from very humble beginnings have such upper middle class accents 😂

There are exceptions but they’re still not the norm. Jody Comer is a Liverpudlian who didn’t ditch her accent and it never fails to get commented on by interviewers leaving her having to explain (and sometimes justify) why she talks that way!

Tis part of our ingrained snobbery, your accent says what class you are.
I’m sure there’s similar in America but I have noticed American actors still sound like where they come from, there doesn’t seem to be one accent for all of them.

There used to be more of that here, during the Golden Age of Hollywood - Bette Davis and Kathrine Hepburn immediately leap to mind.

I’ve always thought that about Jonah Hill 😂
Oh, I’ve a whole list, and some are probably quite a surprise:

Seth Rogan
Jonah Hill
Johnny Depp (no surprise there)
Leonardo Dicaprio (what?!?!)
Nick Kroll
Chris Pratt
John C. Reilly
Many others…so many others…

On the other side of it, I’ll bet Rob Lowe and Anna Kendrick both smell like peppermint.

Agree with all of those stinkers with the exception of Chris Pratt, I’m 50/50 on whether than one washes and puts on a clean shirt 😂

I always thought Cher look like she might whiff a bit, where as Emma Watson she looks fresh 👃

Makes me think of Michael Caine. Still east end of London!
The two big ones that also spring to mind for me are Sean Connery and Anthony Hopkins.
But they do stand out because it’s not the norm 🤷‍♀️
Apparently Sean Bean is unable to shift is accent in any direction. In something he was in they gave up, it was easier to make the child actors do a northern accent than get him to be anywhere near convincing 😂

Rob Lowe smells like a chocolate peppermint Atkins bar. In my imagination, anyway.
