Your Mum and/or Dad's best dishes

Maybe your parents didn't cook very much or weren't very good at cooking. Or perhaps they cooked well and you were spoilt for choice. Either way, what were the dishes they made that you enjoyed most growing up?
 
Mom was a great cook but she’s handicapped, so most of the time we had somebody cooking for us. She did manage the cooking process, just not cooking herself.
My grandmother on my mom side was a great cook too, she did own a bakery/restaurant place but when she was with us, she cooked fantastic vegetarian dishes, but the problem with that is I often went hungry at night, so I usually had to buy some snacks to fill me overnight, didn’t want to get to bed hungry.

My mum was totally blind and cooked nearly all our meals. Its a source of amazement to me that she did, though I took it for granted then. She made a great apple pie with home-made pastry.

My Dad made a huge Yorkshire pudding on Sundays. He also cooked porridge for breakfast.

That’s amazing, mine is legally blind. But how does one cook if one can’t see, it seems dangerous. I know I can’t do it.

There was a lot of touch involved, I do remember that. But actually its not so unsafe. All senses come into play when cooking. Seeing is only one of them.
 
Both my parents were good cooks with mum more of a recipe follower and dad not at all.
Mum cooked during the week, dad in the weekends and during holidays.
And daily, once he retired.
Mum's signature dish was hachée, the Indonesian versian, not the Dutch one and an oven dish with white beans, sausage, apples and potatoes
Dad just cooked all and everything gado-gado, nasi goreng, semoor but also raw endive potato mash, pasta dishes and so on
 
I don't think I can name one dish either of my parents cooked that I liked. Neither could cook, mum didn't want to, ex-step-father thought he was a good cook, but that is as far as it went (think pressure cooking rice for an example). And yes, he could even kill and baked potato with cheese.

I'd have to go to my Grannie instead. She could cook. Vegetable lasagne was one of her dishes, another Leek and Mushroom gratin, Staffordshire oatcakes, pikekets, cheese scones, chocolate chip scones, pancakes....

Apple crumble, Apple and Rhubarb crumble, raspberry jam, strawberry jam to die for,....
 
I grew up eating out of cans and boxes, unfortunately. Nothing memorable at all. I did like my grandpa's pancakes on the weekends, though. That was the one (only) thing he could cook, which I'd drown in Aunt Jemima's.
