One or two of my uncles spend some time there...

I'm sorry to hear that, did he survive?
Yep
It was 2 of them. Both survived, but I never knew them
One died of heart attack before I was born and the other was a test pilot. Crashed before I was born as well.
Dad's side, almost all in Japanese camps except my youngest aunt. Appropriate to mention as remembrance just took place

Yeah I know, my great grandfather & mother on the Indonesian side were in the Birma railway camps too.
We always remember on august 15.

Sorry you never got to meet them. RIP 🙏🌸

Yeah grand dad worked on the burma rail road.
But we were lucky. The whole family survived and got reunited in Siam (Thailand).
I went to see the war memorial near Kwai when I was in Thailand and it was very impressive.
Grand dad hardly ever talked about his experiences and dad only 50 years or so after the fact (Dad was the oldest and in a male camp, separated from grandma and siblings)

I am glad your family were lucky but the whole family must have been incredibly tested by those circumstances, incredible that you all made it!
It was such an awful time, I am glad to hear your family did well
My great grandfather never really got better mentally. I can't imagine the pain.
