I'm a liquorice fan.

Do you remember these?

I think that is natural liquorice stalks? I haven't had them as far as I remember. We used to have blackjack chews which were liquorice flavoured and also hard liquorice sticks.

I was one of those kids that grew up with an incredibly well fed sweet tooth,
here in the states. Some of these i know are no more, some are still around.
So some are childhood favorites (CHF) while some are current faves. (CF)

CHF:
Zotz
Space Food Sticks
Scooter Pies
Screaming Yellow Zonkers
Pop Rocks
Fiddle Faddle
Tootsie Pops
Cup of Gold

CF:
Snickers
Lemonheads
Red Hots

Milk Duds
Whoppers
Orange Sticks
Jordan Almonds

It was a yellow tube with red writing on it, as I remember with a liquorice straw which didn't work as a straw at all!

I remember it now. Not really a favourite of mine though.

I love all the names! We have Tic Tacs - they are tiny pellets mint or fruit flavoured. More a grown up sweet so possibly not the same.

Well I don't know about Tic Tacs not being a childhood sweet my kids certainly ate plenty of them when they were growing up. lol

I would really like to hear of more of the interesting sweets and snacks in UK and Aust.

There are so many. - there is a tradition of hard boiled sweets. Here are some I remember:

Army and Navy
Rhubarb and Custard
Pear Drops (these are strange as they taste like nail polish)
Pineapple cubes
Winter mix (these tasted like cough sweets and used to be my favourite as a kid)
Humbugs (the black and white striped)
Sour Apples
Kola cubes

I can't say I've ever heard of any of them, except maybe pear drops (but I've never tasted nail polish).

Sherbet lemons, I remember. And Fox's glacier mints.

Those with a liking for old-fashioned sweet shops (and who just happen to be passing through Pitlochry in Perthshire) will want to pop in here:

Jars aplenty and some rather nice ice cream as well.
