I bought this about 18 months ago. It was only today that I discovered that if you put batteries in it, it lights up!

It was more an admission of my naivety rather than a quiz. How would I know that you would need to put batteries in a screwdriver?

And why would I ever need to use a screwdriver in the dark?

I use them all the time. The rear side of racks full of computers often are dark and have hundreds of various cables and wiring running about like a rat's nest.

Alson much of the newer wiring, such as fibre, is very small.

I remember that when digging the trench for one of the Frigg pipelines in the 70s we damaged the main telephone cable between Scotland and England. As it was an insurance claim I went to see the repair - there must have been 500 cables all different colour combinations. Looked like a pair of fibre optic lamps.
