food

Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.
Historically, humans secured food through two methods: hunting and gathering and agriculture. Today, the majority of the food energy required by the ever increasing population of the world is supplied by the food industry.
Food safety and food security are monitored by agencies like the International Association for Food Protection, World Resources Institute, World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Food Information Council. They address issues such as sustainability, biological diversity, climate change, nutritional economics, population growth, water supply, and access to food.
The right to food is a human right derived from the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), recognizing the "right to an adequate standard of living, including adequate food", as well as the "fundamental right to be free from hunger".

    Food Prices

I really don't want to, nor intend to start a political discussion, because I despise all politics and politicians, but for my "'Murica" people, wasn't one of the things that Trump ran on was "lowering grocery prices"? Maybe it just hasn't hit my area yet, but not only have grocery prices...

Hey everyone! I’m Andrew. I’m a web developer who has been trying to get more involved in actual cooking, even though right now the only thing I can reliably make are eggs. I’m here to learn from home cooks and hopefully level up past breakfast mode. A few things pulled me into cooking: It...

Menu planning makes cooking less stressful

A few months ago, I used to feel totally drained after cooking. It wasn’t the cooking part… it was the everything else — the mess, the pressure to make something good, and the time it took after a long day. Then one small habit changed things for me: I started planning my meals one day before...

    Great Dinner Rolls/New Food Processor

I was gifted a new food processor. I haven't had one in ten or so years. I couldn't cook for 10 years because two natural disasters wiped me out twice a few years apart. It's nothing fancy, no frills and inexpensive, so the first thing I made in it was this recipe, and I kneaded the dough in the...

Poorly food for poorly people. What you eat when feel unwell?

Soup and noodles have been mentioned on CB as food people eat when they’ve been unwell. I love chicken soup when I’m feeling under the weather. My mum however thought a bar of Bournville chocolate flung from the door onto the bed (best stay away from any germs) was good sick person fodder 😂...

Do you throw away food after its 'Best Before Date'?

Do you think it's safe to eat food after the 'Best Before Date' on the package? I usually keep dry goods like flour for another 6 months to 1 year and wet foods such as BBQ sauce for a few months to reduce food waste. Any thoughts?
