I'm with you on that! My idea of baking a cake is starting by reading the back of the box of mix...

The only reason I know about fondant is because my cousin had a wedding cake made with it and it tasted awful. One of the aunts made a comment on how awful the fondant was, so I learned something new that day.
 
MrsT hates fondant. It’s one of the few negative things she’ll say about her time in the UK - a lot of fondant.
Agree with that totally. I don’t understand the appeal.
I mean I do from the POV that it’s a very old preservation method designed to keep the cake fresh and free from mould but it’s one tradition I’d happily wave goodbye to.

Yeah, the aunt said, "Well it's a beautiful cake, but a waste of money if the guests don't want to eat it." I mean, the bride had no idea until the groom gently placed the piece to her mouth for her to take a bite...she had a very odd expression in that wedding photo.
