They were characters most of us had encountered a similar version of at some point in our lives. Educated, forthright, blustering and irrepressible. It was impossible not to find them appealing.

Clarissa was an unbelievable personality. I understand she was debarred from the High Courts because she turned up kissed as a poot one day, and the judge was not amused.
