I don’t eat them and my family didn’t either.
For some large family, this is what they serve as breakfast. I think my aunt, who is alive and kicking, is in her 90s now, served her large family congee for breakfast. I believe she has 10-13 kids but who’s counting.
 
I often cook my rice in broth rather than water. I've been doing it for 60 years. It isn't a soup. It is just rice with added flavor.
Same here, and I frequently do the same with noodles.

I do remember the time I’d made a big batch of rice cooked in chicken broth, saved the leftover rice, and made sweet rice pudding the next day for dessert… :headshake:
