Brothy rice - a new obsession

Brothy rice is the latest Tik Tok comfort food obsession. There is nothing new about broth with rice in it or broth poured over rice. From arroz caldo to Vietnamese khao tom, these soups have been around for centuries. The only thing new thing is the hashtag: 'brothy rice'!

I don’t eat them and my family didn’t either.
For some large family, this is what they serve as breakfast. I think my aunt, who is alive and kicking, is in her 90s now, served her large family congee for breakfast. I believe she has 10-13 kids but who’s counting.

I immediately thought of a Spanish dish called "asopado"- which roughly translates as "soup-like"
I remember eating one about 10 yrs ago when my bro visited, made with fresh lobster. The classic version is made with rice, broth and seafood.

Same here, and I frequently do the same with noodles.

I do remember the time I’d made a big batch of rice cooked in chicken broth, saved the leftover rice, and made sweet rice pudding the next day for dessert…
