Carbs or proteins?

My wife has to take potassium tablets (i.e. horse pills, if I recall): she was hospitalized for low potassium (she was very weak). Her father has high potassium.

So far I'm now on 9 times the dose of potassium tablets my GP had me on plus oral liquid solution potassium. The IV potassium has at least stopped but I think they are having real problems getting it higher. At home I also take sublingual (query spelling, under tongue) vegan B12 because I too was low on it.
