Cheap or Expensive Cutlery?

I grew up with a combo of proper real silverware (grandparents) and modern Scando designer not cheap not grossly expensive stainless steel flatware. Hated the real silver to eat with, liked the stainless steel. Me, I like industrial utilitarian and collect vintage houseware, crockery & cutlery, have a mixture of styles inherited, bought, and acquired. I collect plain white toppish of the line restaurant crockery for knock down prices. Not a cutlery fetishist but like some of the Robert Welch stuff. To be eaten with/off, not shown off. 😅

Me too. I'd go to the restaurant used supply store in Las Vegas and get complete tableware sets for $12. They'd have multiple bins of SS flatware, $0.25 a piece. 👍

The only cutlery I have that isn’t for frequent use is the 1920’s cutlery I bought, you know the sort with the ivory coloured handles?
They’re hand wash only and acid can stain them so I am a bit careful with them.
I think they didn’t survive 100 years for carelessness to ruin them.

I go to Ikea now for stuff, my husband keeps breaking glasses and dishes, so I said best to buy them cheap so he won’t worry about breaking them, peace of mind really.

Yep for me being able to replace a glass or plate like for like is important cos of the amount of smashing they do 😂
That’s why for everyday stuff I tend to stick with Duralex’s ‘Picardie’ glasses. They’re cheap, sturdy, often bounce rather than break and they’ve been making them since 1954. I also like that you can use them for hot drinks, a hot chocolate looks lovely in them.

I've got glasses but I choose to drink out of plastic tumblers. Glass just explodes on this floor and neither me, no shoes inside, nor my dog Pippi need any of that going on!

So mine is also 18/10. This is that, starting with the serving spoon, down to a coffee spoon.

Then I have the latte spoons which are a different make and my favourite spoon (just the one) which I have known as long as I can remember. It's shape really suits me because it does not cut into my mouth the way the soup spoons in the set above (which are not there) did.

On the back of that one is Made in Sheffield. Guess you have to know where Sheffield is! but it shows its age and is my favourite - even ahead of my titanium spork.

Absolutely. Durelex is great - relatively pricey over here but still worth it.

Like the sound of those!
