My Christmas tree...

More decorations to be made by the resident weavers :)

But seriously, no, no christmas tree for me.
Christmas is not a big thing in the rural areas and I haven't really figured outhow to get in a christmas mood with temperatures around 35 Celsius!

I'll see if there is an island or sandbank braai going.
Otherwise I'm thinking steak or maybe I smoke a chicken in weber smoky mountain

Oooh interesting, very expensive, but who cares this time round, thank you.

I am looking at these people because I want smoked duck breast and I facy some proper Morecambe Bay potted shrimps. Obviously whilst looking I spotted their Huntsman Burgers and loads of other stuff I could break the bank with.

The Port of Lancaster Smokehouse
The Fish Society are doing 15% off today :okay:

Just set the Christmas Day menu - nothing to raise any eyebrows, but it’ll get the job done:

Lettuce salad (to claim we’re being healthy)
Prime rib (just bought it yesterday)
Scalloped potatoes
Sautéed Brussels sprouts
Yorkshire pudding
Gravy, of course

Don’t know about desserts yet, but we have a load of frozen stuff, so some of that, I suppose.

Beer/wine/bubbles/cocktails, as required.

I found some Italian pancetta the other day. Then I found some imported Molisana spaghetti at a supermarket, at only $3 a packet (it's normally $5.50) .
Christmas lunch will be spaghetti carbonara. Yes, I know, it should be guanciale, but there's no way I'll ever find that here. I'll just stick with something close!

Christmas dinner as planned for 4, plus 1 yr old grandson.
  • Roast turkey with truffle butter stuffed under the skin, black pudding and sausagemeat stuffing and a bergamot lime plus herbs in the cavity.
  • Sprouts, microwaved. No messing with them - nice and bright green with only a little 'bite'.
  • Carrots simmered. No messing with them either.
  • Parsnips, roasted.
  • Potatoes cooked in saffron infused water then roasted in olive oil.
  • Pigs in blankets (shop bought).
  • Bread sauce
  • Sage and onion stuffing (packet mix).
  • Cranberry sauce and redcurrant jelly
  • Turkey gravy
  • Bisto gravy
No dessert as there are usually chocolates in presents and nobody has much of a sweet tooth.
