• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Competitive eating - which food would you choose?

We took the kids when they were young. It wasn't the worst I'd ever eaten.
No, I didn’t mean it that way. It was something like $5 a head and the pizza was certainly no worse than Dominos.

They used to be over at the original Jungle Jim’s, which is nearly an hour, and when I went over that way, I always ate at The Red Squirrel (sandwich shop).

I wouldn’t do it, but if we’re on the topic of foods we can eat a ton of, for me it would either be potato chips or dried mango slices. I love fresh mangos too, but I can’t keep the dried ones in the house - I’ll eat an entire bag in one sitting.

I think I'll be on the lookout for some dried mangos next time I go to the grocery store.

I have pigged out on seafood and it’s surprising how quickly it made me feel queasy so I wouldn’t choose that.

But beetroot, my goodness I can wedge a ridiculous amount of that in. Especially if was a variety, like freshly cooked and unadulterated, some pickled, some spicy, some just hot baked from the oven, some golden.

I don’t think I’ve ever reached the end of wanting to wedge in beetroot, the only thing that ever stops me is there wouldn’t be enough to go around and gluttony is an unattractive trait when you’re eating more than your share 😂

I believe TastyReuben loves beetroot too. I can take it or leave it. Its a little too sweet for me eaten on its own. But it does have a pleasant earthy taste.
