I also had a potato explode in the oven, after reading several articles over a period of time announcing that the whole poke-your-potato thing was a myth.
Many years ago I was given just one job to do on Christmas morning - keep the water topped up in the huge Bain Marie that was steaming the Christmas pudding. Inevitably I was distracted, and the thing boiled dry. Aluminium Bain Maries and molten red plastic basins are a match made in heaven, and shall never part, regardless of the amount of industrial level cleaning and scouring applied.
The plate shouldn't be there really. Its there because the glass microwave turntable plate broke. The turntable is also broken and has a wheel missing and goes round lop sided. So the whole microwave is somewhat of a shambles. Its a built in microwave but is easily replaceable. I keep pondering whether to replace it or get replacement parts...
