Might be a little healthier? IDK, I put sugar in mine so maybe not, LOL. It's not like I put a ton of sugar in it, just a touch of sweetness, and then of course I slather it in butter and a little honey. But definitely better than white bread? And way healthier (though not as tasty) as Twinkies!

When I make cornbread it's got whole kernel corn, diced chili's, minced onions, and some garlic mixed in. Of course it's floating in butter when served...

Oh okay, I have had savory cornbread before, but I don't love it. My grandmother made it Texas style sweet and that's how everyone in my family made it, too. I would try yours though.

I'll bring some the next time you make anything with seafood! 😄
I don't dip mine, it stays on the side. My DH likes to crumble it up on whatever else I am serving. Since usually it goes with some sort of smoked pork and beans dish with greens on the side, I don't get it. And he isn't crazy about greens (mustards are my favorite). I think I can't take the Yankee out of him. He has adapted to a few things (he loves my grits and will eat biscuits and sausage gravy), but...

Depending on what we were having, cornbread (no sugar and made with white cornmeal, not yellow) would get crumbled over top, especially with soup beans.

A favorite treat we always had was cold cornbread crumbled into a glass, buttermilk poured over, and a good pinch of black pepper on top. Eaten with a spoon until the cornbread was gone, then finished like a normal glass of milk.

Regional food differences are interesting, aren't they?

I doubt my Italian American husband ever ate cornbread until I made it. Well I do think that they vacationed in the Carolinas when he was a child, so he might have tried it, not liked it, and forgot about it. Oh he also didn't really like hushpuppies until he tried mine. I have to admit, they are exceptional!

I've never eaten cornbread. Its not really a thing in the UK. I always imagine it to be too sweet for my taste (I'm not keen on sweetcorn for that reason).
Without sugar added, it's surprisingly not sweet, which is why I add sugar to mine. It tastes nothing of corn (to me). But I think you would find it bland. You might like Barriehie's version?

Different regions use no sugar, a little sugar, and a good bit of sugar. I'm in the little sugar camp. Craig is in the middle of the little to no sugar camp.

We both like corn cakes, like pancakes, except made with fine cornmeal and flour, to go with beef stew or similar, lots of butter for me, a little for Craig.

My favorite recipe for corn muffins or bread is from Mickey Mouse. Recipe - Cheddar, corn, jalapeno corn bread is the recipe, minus the cheese, corn kernels and jalapeños.

Then we have hush puppies! Recipe - Buttermilk Hushpuppies

I’ve mentioned this before - we used to have occasional potlucks at work when we lived in the UK, and once, I made corn muffins (just cornbread done in a muffin tin), and our British coworkers were completely dumbfounded and obsessed with them…pulling them apart (and into a pile of crumbs), trying to figure out if they were sweet or savory, wondering how they were to be eaten, with what, what was in them. It was quite interesting!

Here’s a little story about the cornbread-and-buttermilk:

How Cornbread And Milk Became A Beloved Southern Snack
I can see that. I just don't love milk. Whenever I used to eat cereal regularly (over 30 years ago), I barely used enough milk to moisten the cereal. Even as a kid I was never one to drink the milk out of the bowl, which made my mother irritated since it was wasteful. I'd rather have buttered toast. Maybe that's why I am only 5'2", the shortest of all my siblings, with one sister who is 5"11" without shoes on...

Here’s hands-down the best cornbread I’ve ever made:

Recipe - Lemon-Buttermilk Corn Muffins

I was telling my mom about them when I’d made them, and how I’d gotten the recipe from America’s Test Kitchen (she was familiar with the show), and her response was:

“Lemon, huh? In the cornbread?…Well, that fella is a Yankee, if I ‘member right.”
