Do you do food requests.?

I'll do special requests for birthdays. I do have a few exceptions though.

My husband gets the most special requests because he gone so much. He looks forward to his favorite foods when getting home.

My girls can get an extra special request as a reward for spectacular schoolwork.

For my special requests we usually go out to eat. I don't want to cook my birthday dinner. Sometimes I request expensive ingredients and kitchen equipment instead, so I can tackle that special recipe.

He does not eat for weeks. Or he gets aggressive and destroys everything in sight for days. Seriously, his parents have tried everything. In the case of autism, it's not as simple as a dislike for a certain food. His brain is wired differently and rejects certain textures. The only thing possible that I have suggested to his parents is that he goes to an eating disorder specialist, which we might consult in the future but currently he's in treatment for other issues that take priority.

My older 2 are autistic. One has apraxia which has caused over all muscle weakness. The other has dysphagia. It took a couple of years to diagnose. They both have gone thru eating therapy. It helped a lot. They will want the same over and over. I find having them in the kitchen helping is great. I encourage the nibbling of ingredients. It's a daily process. They know to that it is expected of them to try and experience foods. We sit down to dinner almost every evening. No tv, phones, etc... I try very hard to have a relaxing atmosphere. They find themselves nibbling while talking and laughing.
