I'm having some toast as my mid-morning snack:

That top piece is the heel (I think some people call it the butt) of the bread loaf. It's my favorite piece for toast.

MrsT doesn't like the heel at all and won't use it. She's even been known to throw it away.

Besides using it for breadcrumbs (which I also do, and croutons), how do you all "feel about the heel?" - love it, hate it, or couldn't care less one way or the other?

The heel is fantastic for loading with butter and then rubbing all over hot corn-on-the-cob. Hot buttered corn and hot buttered bread! 🤤

I love the heel of most breads. I make half sandwiches with one heel, wrapped around some meat. My favorite is tuna salad eaten this way.

Back in the days were I ate a lot of chocolate cream, I smeared a big layer of butter on the heel followed by a thick layer of chocolate cream, sometimes I use jam or peanut butter or both.

The most important for me was, the spread should balance the big peace of bread.
